Assumptions vs Expectations: Understanding the Unseen Connection

Assumptions and expectations are two different concepts, yet they are closely linked with one another. When we are not aware of the exact situation, or when we have not personally witnessed an incident but have heard only parts of the story, we tend to make an assumption.  On the other hand, when we want someone to act according to our wishes or have a feeling for others to look up to us as per our requirements, it becomes an expectation. At first glance, assumptions and expectations may seem unrelated. However, in reality, both are feelings that are deeply interconnected and, if not managed properly, can create misunderstandings and conflicts. We need to understand that assumptions create perceptions, while expectations develop emotional needs. This holds true in both professional and personal relationships.
